Jacob Arabov’s Timepieces are among the Highest Selling Lots at Antiquorum Geneva Auction

In a testament to the continued strength of the Jacob the Jeweler Arabov brand and the increasing appeal of its highly-complicated watches, two of the luxury watchmaker’s tourbillon timepieces achieved top ranking sales in the prestigious Antiquorum auction of “Important Collectors’ Wristwatches, Pocket Watches, Clocks and Horological Tools,” held at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva, Switzerland.

Jacob & Co.’s exceptional Crystal Tourbillon was the top selling lot at 420,000CHF while the firm’s titanium Napoleon Quadra garnered the third highest selling lot at 312,000CHF.

The two extremely rare timepieces were part of a selection of Swiss made modern tourbillon watches that included some of the world’s most esteemed brands and helped propel record-breaking sales at the auction.

The Crystal Tourbillon precisely exemplifies Jacob the Jeweler’s technical ability and mastery of complications combined with its high jewelry expertise. Considered a work of art by watch connoisseurs, the Crystal Tourbillon’s transparent dial and exhibition case back showcase a floating skeleton tourbillon with sapphire bridge. The exquisite movement is framed in an 18k white gold case and adorned by 17.48 carats of invisibly set baguette-cut diamonds. The Crystal Tourbillon was created in a limited edition of only 18 pieces.

Innovation is a hallmark of Jacob & Co. and is evident in the titanium Napoleon Quadra. The Napoleon Quadra is handcrafted and features 652 components. Another Jacob & Co. ‘world first,’ the watch is produced in a limited edition of only 18 pieces.

The impressive results achieved by these two timepieces at the Antiquorum auction parallel those achieved by Jacob Arabov’s jewelry pieces at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction held in Hong Kong, October 2008. In a similar play of events, a spectacular Jacob & Co. cushion-shaped diamond ring was the highest selling item at $5.78 million, while a yellow gold and diamond necklace and earring was the fourth at $960,624.

Despite the challenging economic times, the brand continues to attract new customers and the exceptional timepieces and jewelry continue to yield record breaking sales at prominent auction houses. Jacob & Co. is consistently one of the most sought-after luxury brands in the world.

Jacob Arabov's Strong Interest in Jewelry and Timepieces

Founded in 1981 by Jacob the Jeweler, this relatively new NYC based watch company has been a hit with celebrities and watch aficionados alike. Jacob Arabov grew up in Russia and immigrated to the United States as a young boy.

Jacob the Jeweler Arabov has always had a strong interest for jewelry and decided to enroll into jewelry design school in order to flame his passion. He graduated top of his class and immediately opened a small both in New York City’s diamond district. His talents did not go unnoticed and soon he was commissioned to design pieces for a number of jewelry brands and private clients.

For over a decade Jacob Arabov was hard at work trying to enlarge his presence in the jewelry industry; he got his big break when he started to designing jewelry and watches for the music industry. Jacob Arabov Enters the Board Room with Sophistication and Class

As product innovation has always been the hallmark of Jacob & Co., it was no surprise that Jacob Arabov would begin designing world-first movements within three years of his first timepiece introduction. The Five Time Zone Automatic, the first of the proprietary men’s complications, was developed to build on Jacob’s well-known five time zone characteristic.

In 2005, Jacob the Jeweler Arabov unveiled this new direction in watch-making by combining his signature time zone technology with an automatic movement. The resulting limited-edition timepiece is striking in its simplicity; the clean lines belie the master complication within this original, world-class movement.

The Five Time Zone Automatic’s enamel dial is painted and embossed with special guilloche, with accents on the circular time zone markers in each of four quadrants. Roman numerals appear at twelve and six o’clock, with a date indicator at three o’clock. Leaf shaped hands in steel with a gun color treatment move effortlessly about the dial.

This revolutionary 24-jewel movement is ETA A07.111 with a proprietary Jacob the Jeweler Arabov complication controlling the principal and additional four time zones, as well as date indicator. The exhibition case back reveals an automatic bridge and rotor with Jacob the Jeweler engraving and bi-color metal treatment.

This 1,800 piece limited edition is available with a 47.5mm case in stainless steel or 18K white, yellow and rose gold. The Five Time Zone Automatic is crafted, assembled and decorated by hand to the highest Jacob the Jeweler’s quality standards.

Jacob the Jeweler’s Exceptional Grant Collection

For more than 25 years, Jacob Arabov has been building timepieces of innovation and remarkable stature. Now, the new Grant Collection reinforces the brand’s legacy in time and further delineates its dedication to state-of-the-art design and craftsmanship.

Evocative of a bygone era, the Grant Collection pays homage to the bold spirit of legendary leaders in time, and is the second in the collection – following on the heels of the highly successful Napoleon Single Tourbillon, which was released in 2008.

Exquisite in design, yet as bold as its namesake, the Grant Collection consists of the Grant and the Grant Tourbillon – both stellar mechanical timepieces housing Jacob the Jeweler Arabov calibers with hand-assembled components – each magnificently etched and engraved. Each Swiss-made timepiece has its own individual aesthetic and appeal. An identifiable modern classic appeal, the 45mm round Grant Collection is characterized by a high-polished case accented with 10 hand-turned screws, and by distinguished black or white Roman numerals against a gold or lacquered dial. As with all Jacob & Co. timepieces, the case is carved from a single block of solid gold formed into its individual pieces and hand assembled.

The Grant Tourbillon houses the Jacob & Co. Caliber no 6 with 127 hand-assembled components, including 19 jewels. The mechanical one-minute flying tourbillon features a sapphire bridge and the movement offers a resolute 72 hours of power reserve. It beats at a solid 28,800 vibrations per hour and is another example of Jacob the Jeweler’s ability to deliver powerful precision. The exceptional dial of the Grant Tourbillon is a striking two-layer feat, with the upper layer in 18-karat rose or white gold with Roman numerals and the much-coveted Cotes de Genève pattern. This dial is cut away to reveal the tourbillon escapement and a lower plate in a woven gold pattern. The Grant Tourbillon is created in a limited, numbered production of 18 pieces each in white or rose gold with alligator strap. This masterpiece of horology and harmony is water resistant to 30 meters.

The Grant is equally as sophisticated in its understated classic modern elegance. The watch features a sub seconds dial at 9:00 and date indication at 3:00. The dial is superbly lacquered in white, black or golden, with Roman numerals and inner chapter rings. The Grant houses the Jacob & Co. Caliber no 11 movement with 18 jewels. It offers 50 hours of power reserve, and is water resistant to 30 meters. Crafted in 18-karat white or rose gold, the Grant offers the perfect blend of design, mechanical prowess and unique character.

Jacob Arabo on Unveiled Olympic Torch for London 2012

The Olympic torch for London 2012 has been unveiled but is it a tasteful piece of perforated, gold-colored design. Celebrity jeweler Jacob Arabo gives his own evaluation on the same.

According to the source, East London designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby say they wanted it to resemble a piece of sporting equipment rather than a trophy. They described it as ''physically light and visually light'' but their 80cm tall perforated gold creation has divided commentators.

High profile fan of Olympics and designer jewelry, Jacob Arabo, also known as Jacob the Jeweler Arabo who is immensely popular among rappers and celebrities, including David Beckham, Bono and Elton John also evaluated the designing of Olympic torch.

He said, "It reflects a sleek and modern architectural design of the current times. It has a very aerodynamic look which is representative of athletic performance."
The use of soft, durable and lightweight aluminum alloy won praise from him as did the perforations that have led to the cheese grater jibes.

"I particularly liked the symbolism of 8,000 holes representing the runners from all around the world," Arabo says. "This is a credible detail and evokes the inspiration needed to build this iconic piece."

Some newspaper readers have complained that the torch is reminiscent of "bling" jewelry. But Jacob the Jeweler, who has been referred to in dozens of tracks by artists like 50 Cent, Kanye West and Jay-Z, says it hits all the right notes.
"The representation of a torch with significance was accomplished here. It requires special craftsmanship to build these pieces which calls for time, knowledge and specific skill, much like the athletes who participate."

He further stated, “I think it looks very elegant - a bit like one of the old fashioned cigarette holders you saw in 30s and 40s Hollywood films.”

Jacob the Jeweler -- A Tale of Success

Jacob made his name creating outrageous jewelry for hip hop's biggest stars. Now as he prepares to move his business uptown, "Jacob the Jeweler" Arabo is putting the spotlight on his more delicate side.

Joseph Arabo, better known as Jacob the Jeweler is a mass of energy. Anyone who knows anything about modern celebrity culture has heard the name and seen the product. As for the man himself, Jacob the Jeweler is something of an enigma. People think he makes diamond guns, crosses, and Jesus heads. He is capable of doing jewelry for everyone, not just athletes and rappers. He has jewelry for little five-year-old girls and for girls who want to buy two-million-dollar pink earrings.

Twenty-five years ago, Arabo, his parents, and two of his four sisters came to New York from Russia. His father was in the liquor business and his mom stayed at home. Though his father had hoped for Arabo to continue the family business of making vodka and wine, he had other ideas. At 16, Arabo left school to study jewelry-making. After four months of training, he fibbed about his age so he could qualify for his first job. Nine months later, he had increased his weekly salary from $125 to $1,500 by started designing new jewelry and for the company in which he was working and within a year he had 10 jewelers working for himself.

It was Arabo's passion for his business that catapulted him to financial success. He literally went to the ends of the earth. He went to Brazil, Africa, to Russia to buy diamonds. He actually went to the worst places of Brazil, where it is dangerous to find precious diamonds. It is representative of the way he has pushed himself from his days as a teenager.

Arabo made a famous four-finger ring for Biz Markie. Arabo introduced the music industry to better-quality diamonds. He brought platinum into the jewelry business and everyone converted.

Always on the move, Arabo is partnering with DeBeers diamonds to move out of the place that's been home to his business for 18 years. He has a new location for his office which is very glamorous. It is directly, across the street from the Four Seasons Hotel.

Jacob the Jeweler Arabov have a great business philosophy which is like ‘Whatever you do in life, you have to do the finest, the best. Otherwise, do not do it. You do it from the heart. Your good faith in what you deliver will come back to you 10 times over.' That is what they actually do. They make sure that what they sell to the customer is happiness, quality-wise and looks-wise.

Jacob the Jeweler's Unique Technique On Baguette Ruby Tourbillon / 24 Time Zone

Jacob Arabov’s new method of diamond and gem- setting results in unrivaled levels of brilliance

At Basel 2005, Jacob the Jeweler introduced the first automatic timepiece marrying a tourbillon device with multiple time zone technology. For 2009, Jacob & Co. has reinvented the Baguette Tourbillon with a stunning new Ruby case and dial, showcasing Jacob & Co.’s remarkable gem-setting techniques. Jacob the Jeweler Arabov has taken their timepiece and revolutionized the series with its creation of the Ruby Tourbillon, a timepiece unsurpassed for its technology and beauty.

To develop exceptional timepieces with maximum scintillation, Jacob the Jeweler Arabov developed a new method of placing stones on the dial. The face of the Baguette Tourbillon has been set with absolutely no visible gold, resulting in a total fusion of elements on the dial. Thus nothing impedes the light entering or leaving creating an unimagined level of brilliance.

The newly created Baguette Ruby Tourbillon timepiece set in 18K white gold features an impressive 204 baguette Burmese rubies on the dial (5.98cts) and a total of 294 baguette Burmese rubies on the bezel and case (33.34cts). Equally stunning is Jacob the Jeweler’s Diamond Tourbillon, distinctive in its design, particularly for its extensive use of D-color, flawless baguette diamonds, giving a sophisticated flair to the collection. Specifically, the timepiece is designed with 482 specially cut baguette diamonds (as well as several specially cut trapazoid diamonds), for a total of 28 carats set on the dial, bezel, and case.

Also subtly placed on each dial are three circular timers, capturing the time in 24 additional world cities, including Los Angeles, Seoul, Auckland, New York, Rio, Paris, Bangkok, Dubai, Sydney, Phoenix, Honolulu, Tashkent, London, Caracas, Hong Kong, Nairobi, Las Vegas, Buenos Aires, Abu Dhabi, Hobart, Jakarta, Suva, Chicago, and Geneva. This technological feature makes the watch truly unique and distinctively Jacob & Co.

Jacob & Co.’s time zone technology was originally created to address the versatility of his world traveling clients; it has become associated with the ultimate in customized luxury.

Jacob Arabov credits the inspiration for his designs to the fast paced, ever demanding lifestyle of his clients; including David Beckham, Justin Timberlake, Bono, Angela Bassett, Jessica Alba, Madonna, Sir Elton John, Naomi Campbell, Sean Combs and Derek Jeter.

Black Baguette Diamond Rainbow Tourbillon Timepiece Designed By Jacob the Jeweler

Jacob Arabo’s Black Baguette Diamond Rainbow Tourbillon is sleek sophistication with the ability to tantalize.

When Jacob the Jeweler Arabo introduced the first automatic timepiece marrying a tourbillon device with multiple time zone technology, it was a much talked about revelation in watch making by Jacob Arabo . In the year 2005, Jacob & Co. has taken the timepiece and set it with black baguette diamonds, creating the unique, limited-edition Black Baguette Diamond Rainbow Tourbillion. Showing the evolution of the brand, the Black Baguette Diamond Rainbow Tourbillion utilizes their previously developed custom method of placing diamonds directly on the dial as shown in its sister watch, the Baguette Rainbow Tourbillon, creating a timepiece unsurpassed for its technology and design, but with an understated edge.

The stones on the face of the Black Baguette Diamond Rainbow Tourbillon have been set with absolutely no visible metal between the crystal and the diamonds, resulting in a total fusion of the elements on the dial. Nothing impedes the refraction of light on the diamonds – perfecting the look of stealth modernity.

“With all my new timepieces, especially my limited editions, I try and venture someplace that no one has been before,” said Jacob the Jeweler, Jacob & Co. founder. “I am particularly proud of this new Black Baguette Diamond Rainbow Tourbillon, as it combines my aesthetic sensibilities and technical pursuit of perfection.”

Cast in 18K white gold and paved in 204 baguette-cut black diamonds, the limited-edition piece boasts 33.54 carats including its buckle, with understated individually set baguette background with black geometric timers, with leaf-shaped, steel hands in a gun-metal treatment suspended above. The movement features Jacob & Co. pave bridges and a handmade finish.

On this limited edition, the tourbillon motion is visible through the dial. An exhibition case back also allows the movement to show through the sapphire crystal. (The tourbillon device’s purpose is to eliminate errors of rate in the vertical position. It consists of a mobile carriage or cage carrying all of the parts of the escapement, with the balance in the center. The escape pinion turns about the fixed fourth wheel. The case makes one revolution per minute, thus annulling errors of rate in the vertical positions.)

The specific time zone functionality varies by style, with the timepieces covering 24 time zones in addition to the primary zone of the wearer. The 24 jewel movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, with a 120 hour power reserve. The movement is a mechanical, manual winding tourbilllon device.

Jacob Arabo says himself, that he has jewelry for "five-year-old girls" as well as superstar diamond encrusted crosses. He also has jewelry for girls who like "two million dollar pink diamond earrings." It seems he has something for everyone and it is not surprising after his history in the business. He was willing to travel the world to find the diamonds he wanted, and risked dealing with dangerous people in scary places at first. He was determined to support his family with his jewelry business and it seems he has managed it well enough.

Jacob married his wife, Angela, also a Bukharian Jew, at age twenty-four when she was twenty, in Queens, NY and has an "Angel" watch named for her. Arabo also has a watch that covers five time zones for world skimming connoisseurs. Only in his forties, he has already experienced the kind of success that most do not in a lifetime. Skilled Jewelers for Extraordinary Diamond Jewelry

People like to buy jewelry from the specialized jewelers who are in jewelry designs of unparalleled wonder and completely unique imaginative ideas. The legacy and heritage of many well known jewelers are powerful language of design in which inventiveness and inspiration merge with fine jewelry making techniques, to give birth to iconic and intricately crafted masterpieces.

Most of us have come across one of the amazing jewelers in USA, Jacob & Co. Their jewelry creations are stunningly opulent; there are also those designs which offer a subtlety and lightness which only the most sophisticated craftsmanship can produce. Jeweler will prides itself if they have ability to draw for inspiration from the best elements in the rich history of jewelry design, deftly blending tradition with cutting edge modernity.

Behind such attractive designs are the most demanding and intricate Old World techniques, including the exacting art and science of gem cutting and polishing, as well as the developing of precious metals into exquisite settings. To create the dazzling fire of flawless diamonds, both the gemstone and the setting must be crafted so as to maximize the amount of light captured. For these techniques of jewelry making jeweler has its particular specialty of using this remarkable invisible setting technique, in which diamonds are cut and set in such a way that they interlock precisely, with no precious metal visible.

Many of us have experienced that Jacob & Co. also uses its competence of an extensive repertoire of traditional cuts, such as the rose, old mine cushion, and asscher cuts, to enrich the exclusive qualities of each and every jewel. The gemstones themselves are among the rarest in the world. From the pure, perfectly colorless Golconda diamonds of India, to rare colored stones from Africa and Brazil, are some of the world’s finest and most exclusive precious gems for unique creations. Diamonds are always cut, first and foremost, to maximize their beauty and brilliance rather than simply conserve their size -nonetheless, using the highest carat weight diamonds (and, of course, the highest quality stones) appropriate for each design.

Jewelers are supposed to adhere to the strictest standards of fineness and integrity for using real diamonds. Every stone set in a masterpiece is selected based on the most widely accepted criteria used to assess diamond quality: the 4 C's of Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight. All diamonds must be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and Origin issued by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) that precisely describes the diamonds used in each jewelry piece, as they rate in accordance with the 4C's criteria. The GIA is the association which first developed this rating system for diamonds.
